以政治題材為題的美國連續劇「紙牌屋」在美國與中國大陸掀起風潮，該影集風靡大陸觀眾，連中共紀委書紀王岐山都感興趣。大陸演員張國立更在微博指出，即使能拍出這樣戲劇，但是能通過層層審查嗎？並呼籲本土與進口外戲劇適用同樣的審查標準，有利於自有戲劇的創作水準。

美國媒體分析，可能是因為劇情影射大陸當前的腐敗和精英內鬥，有權階層發揮巨大影響力，這些元素是大陸電視劇不敢觸及的。
